The Atlanta Dream, Atlanta’s WNBA team, hosted their annual LGBTQ Pride Night on Saturday, June 26 against the New York Liberty at Gateway Center Arena.
SVTV Network Sports attended the Pride game which featured the Atlanta Women’s Chorus performing the national anthem, and a half time Pride drag performance by Storytime Cabaret. Each fan in attendance was gifted a Pride/rainbow colored rally towel, which draped each seat in the arena.
In the pre-game interview, the SVTV Network asked Aari McDonald: What is the team’s mentality going into tonight’s game, after a close win against the Liberty in your last match up? “Our mentality is to do whatever we have to do to get the dub!”
Both teams brought to the floor their fast paced tempo, exchanging baskets every trip down the court. At the half, the New York Liberty led 43-40.
After the halftime, the New York Liberty unleashed a barrage of three pointers that ultimately led to a Pride Night loss for the Dream. We may have lost the battle, but we definitely showed Pride!
The final score Liberty 101- Dream 78. The Georgia Lottery Player of the Game was Chennedy Carter with 24 points, 2 assist, and 1 steal. The Liberty were led by Laney with 28 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds.
Happy Pride Month!
